MDwise, Inc. of Indiana Selects AmeriHealth Mercy's PerformRx to Provide Pharmacy Benefit Management Services

Philadelphia (PA) - AmeriHealth Mercy announced today that its PerformRx pharmacy benefit management program has been selected by MDwise, Inc., an Indiana Hoosier Healthwise plan to provide pharmacy management to its nearly 120,000 members.

AmeriHealth Mercy/PerformRx will provide drug utilization review/management, formulary/rebate management, and assistance with pharmacy case management programs effective July 1, 2005. In partnership with AmeriHealth Mercy/PerformRx, Argus Health Systems, Inc. will manage claims processing. PerformRx is a "next generation" pharmacy benefit management company that specializes in providing unique utilization management and case management programs.

"We selected PerformRx over several other PBMs because of their special attention to the issues most sensitive to Medicaid Plans that other PBMs just don't have. We also selected them for their reporting capabilities, record for maintaining single digit pharmacy trend, innovative pricing, and overall Medicaid experience," says Charlotte MacBeth, CEO and President of MDwise. "PerformRx has demonstrated proven results in reducing pharmacy costs with their other clients, and we feel that their company mission is in concert with our own - improving the health and well-being of Hoosier Healthwise families."

"We are very pleased that MDwise has chosen AmeriHealth Mercy's PerformRx pharmacy benefit management program," said Daniel J. Hilferty, President and CEO of AmeriHealth Mercy. "With our proven Medicaid-focused management strategy, we are committed and well-positioned to meet the special needs of MDwise members in Indiana through our pharmacy programs and value-added community outreach programs. Our two companies share a tradition of quality care and value to our members, and we look forward to our partnership with MDwise."

"Argus is excited to work with AmeriHealth Mercy in support of MDwise because both companies take an innovative approach to health care. We look forward to serving MDwise members with our distinctive approach," said Charles W. Schellhorn, President of Argus Health Systems.

MDwise is a partnership of neighborhood health care providers dedicated to improving the well-being of Hoosier Healthwise families. MDwise providers currently serve nearly 120,000 Hoosier Healthwise patients, approximately 80 percent of whom are infants, children, and teenagers. MDwise has served the families of Indiana for over 10 years.

With more than 20 years of experience exclusively serving the Medicaid population, AmeriHealth Mercy and its affiliates comprise the largest family of Medicaid managed care plans in the United States, touching the lives of more than 1.5 million members in eight states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia, California, Arizona and Indiana.

Since 1999, Argus Health Systems has partnered with AmeriHealth Mercy to provide state-of-the-art pharmacy claims processing, reporting, and rebate administration services for Keystone Mercy Health Plan and other AmeriHealth Mercy affiliated organizations. Argus Health Systems, Inc. is the country's leading independent provider of claims processing, information services and administrative support for pharmacy program management.
