PerformRx Recognized as Innovative Drug Benefit Program by Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute

Philadelphia, PA - The Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute (PBMI) awarded its 2005 Rx Benefit Innovation Award today to AmeriHealth Mercy's pharmacy benefit management program, PerformRx. The award recognizes PerformRx's development of drug utilization management and clinical intervention programs for the Medicaid population and its creative approaches to drug benefit program management.

"PerformRx realizes the importance of identifying the needs of specific populations to manage utilization and drug benefit costs effectively," says Mesfin Tegenu, Senior Vice President and General Manager of PerformRx. "This highly targeted program is reducing the growth in prescription drug expenditures while enhancing quality of care."

PerformRx, a product of AmeriHealth Mercy, is the next generation pharmacy benefit management program with a proven pharmacy care management solution that meets financial objectives while improving the quality of health care for its customers. Within the Medicaid sector, by using the approach of linking traditional medical management with pharmacy management, PerformRx maintains an average annual pharmacy cost trend of 5% versus the national trend in the range of 15%.

With more than 20 years of experience exclusively serving the Medicaid population, AmeriHealth Mercy and its affiliates comprise the largest family of Medicaid managed care plans in the United States, touching the lives of more than 1.5 million members in seven states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia, California, and Arizona. The third annual Rx Benefit Innovation Awards was presented during PBMI's tenth annual drug utilization management conference being held this week at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas in Scottsdale.
