AmeriHealth Mercy / PerformRx to Present at Specialty Pharmaceutical Management Strategies Conference

Philadelphia, PA - Mesfin Tegenu, MS, RPh, Vice President, Pharmacy Services, AmeriHealth Mercy, will present on PerformRx, AmeriHealth Mercy's pharmacy benefit management product, at the first annual Specialty Pharmaceutical Management Strategies for Health Plans and Employers in Chicago on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel.

PerformRx is the next generation pharmacy benefit management program with a proven pharmacy care management solution that meets financial objectives while improving the quality of health care for its customers. Within the Medicaid sector, by using the approach of linking traditional medical management with pharmacy management, PerformRx maintains an average annual pharmacy cost trend of less than 9% versus the national trend of 18%-25%.

Tegenu will be speaking about the AmeriHealth Mercy's three-year old injectable program that has expanded to include all high cost injectable and biological products. He will demonstrate the program's success, including on patient outcomes and the reduced financial impact on the health plan. He will also be participating in the featured panel presentation, "Best Practice Strategies to Avoid Duplicate Claims Payments that Flow through Medical Pharmacy."

With more than 20 years of experience exclusively serving the Medicaid population, AmeriHealth Mercy and its affiliates comprise the largest family of Medicaid managed care plans in the United States, touching the lives of more than one million members in six states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia and California.

The two-day conference will address the major challenges payors and large self-insured employers are currently facing with managing high-cost, low-volume specialty pharmaceutical market. It will also feature organizations presenting best practices, highlighting ways in which they have managed the rising cost sand surrounding challenges of specialty pharmaceuticals.
